Runner’s High - (noun), the euphoric feeling produced by running long distances and experiencing total clarity of thought.
Lemme take you back to Saturday morning.
I went out for a long run. It’s something I’ve been doing consistently for many years.
I run easy . No time limit. No goals.
Just me and my thoughts.
I do it because I love to run.
I love the feeling of freedom, being fully absorbed in the moment, and letting everything else go for a while.
So….I wrote a poem about it, inspired by my latest real-life “Runner’s High” — which manifested itself as a feeling of pure weightlessness right around the 7.2 mile mark. (I know — couldn’t it have come sooner!)
Here it is.
Weightless.
Weightless,
Moving free
Gliding across the ground
Tapped into a different energy.
Weightless,
Lightened load
Leaving your burdens
Out on the road.
Weightless,
Renewed again
What will be, will be
What has been, has been
Leave it out on the road.
We’re all carrying weight. We have our own burdens to shoulder. My hope is you find your own thing that makes you feel “weightless”.

Refine: ⚓Habit Anchors
Hiding in plain sight.
Yes that’s right.
You have habit anchors right now in your life… Hiding in plain sight.
I’ve tried and failed to establish countless habits. The problem — I always tried to build new habits too far from my core routines. I could keep things going for a while through sheer discipline but that has never been a lasting strategy.
Make it easy
My #1 criteria for establishing a habit anchor — Make it easy.
“But Jon… you take cold showers, that is NOT easy?!”
The reason I’ve been able to maintain this habit for so many years is in its simplicity.
There is no set time
Nothing to think about
Showering was already a thing I did 😉
All I have to is NOT turn the water dial over to hot. That’s it. Everything else remains the same.
Over time this became automatic. Resistance turned into confidence. And I applied this confidence into other areas of my life.
Don’t do what I do
The truth is: There’s no *good* reason to choose cold showers as your habit anchor. If you’re crazy like me, I’d love to hear how it’s going.
But if not, start with something you’re already doing. You’re likely already doing some core things each day — brushing your teeth, making coffee, driving to work, etc… — These core routines can all be the foundation to layer on new good habits.
What habits are you working on? Let me know in the comments.
Rethink
Who knows “what works”?
The answer, according to Dan Blank — No One.
Dan Blank writes The Creative Shift - helping writers develop a human-centered approach to marketing and reaching their audience.
I read his latest newsletter — No one knows what works, but doing stuff works. Here are a couple of highlights:
No one knows what works, but doing stuff works
If you feel lost, focus on the foundations of your creative vision. Get radical clarity on what you create and why.
Steve Jobs was rejected countless times and The White Stripes got feedback top hit “Seven Nation Army” was “eeh, just okay” before they recorded it.
That’s it. Give it a read!
Still On The Toilet?
THANK YOU for making it to the end!
Weightless - lately it has been swimming , but i must be on a floating devise, otherwise i sink when i start to think! :/ Still want to form some more good habits and I like your concept on it :)
I’ve recently adopted breathwork as a morning routine and really love the challenge of seeing how long I can hold my breath.
