“It’s an Establishment”🧄🧄
“This is NOT a restaurant” — I boldly exclaimed to Jordan. This past weekend, we had an early dinner at the Garlic in New Smyrna Beach. Upon arriving, we were transported to a rustic Italian countryside, met with mouthwatering flavors, and left with an experience we’ll never forget.
The food was good, so what?
The lesson here goes much deeper than proclaiming Italian food as the best cuisine (No competition😉). This wasn’t an ordinary date night. This was our first night away from our son, together, since he was born.
Understandably, given his health issues at birth, we both have been apprehensive to leave him. But he is now healthy. And it was time for us to face our fears.
First time feeling
I felt whole at dinner. Completely satisfied — not just from the unforgettable dinner, but with life. Because we were living our parenting principles — facing our fears.
The world is scary for a baby. We ask our son to face his fears every day as he learns to walk, talk, and live in this world.
For a brief moment at dinner, I felt the same joy Miles feels as he takes on life’s challenges and overcomes them for the first time.
Cheers to living our principles and facing our fears.

“Shortcuts for quick decision-making”
Decisions, Decisions, are no Fun..
As you may know, I’m writing a nursery poem book - The Little Trail Runner. This past month I’ve made several decisions outside of my core competency. I’ve chosen an illustrator, printer, book format, business software, etc. etc. (the list goes on).
Making decisions is difficult, stressful, and time consuming. It’s also the key to creating anything as an entrepreneur.
Part 1 - Phone a Friend
One of my first IBM mentors once said - “What makes me effective is using the power of my network”. This was an IBM distinguished engineer with over 190 patents. Likely the smartest guy in any room. And the first place he goes to source information is his network.
Online Networks
You don’t need a fat rolodex to have a network. Here are the 3 top places for finding a network online.
Reddit - By far my favorite. Reddit is a treasure trove of data. You can follow subreddits in any domain and get real advice without the advertisement spin.
Facebook Groups - Another great resource. As the dominant social media, Facebook groups are a powerful way to find others working in your niche.
LinkedIn Groups - Geared towards B2B and professionals. LinkedIn has become the fastest growing social media platform. LI Groups let you tap into your professional networks and build new relationships.
Next time you need to make a decision, Try one of these places before resorting to a google search.

The Secret to Joy
Did you miss last week’s post? Check it out here.
What’s the secret to Joy? For Kevin Kaiser, it’s being invested in the present moment.
In our interview Kevin made a great analogy to how we recollect “battle stories”. In the “heat of battle” (i.e. doing hard things), we all can’t wait for it to be over. We WANT OUT. But as soon as it’s over, we talk about what it was like to be “in it”.
But what if we could be “in it” while we’re in it? Listen to Kevin break this down.

THANK YOU for making it to the end!
Yay!! You had a real date night and you were "In It" feeling the Joy!!:):)
So happy you and Jordan got a night out! You deserve it.
