Recharge: 🏃✌️Runner’s High🏃✌️
Runner’s High - (noun), the euphoric feeling produced by running long distances and experiencing total clarity of thought.
This didn’t start out well…
“Goodbye” - said my headphones, in its calm robotic voice.
I was seconds away from starting my first speed interval, in a workout I was less than passionate about. I had forced myself out the door that morning.
Music is my running crutch. I enjoy discovering new tracks like finding fresh paths. I lose myself in beats and inspiring lyrics while pushing through workouts.
Now that was gone…
Tune into your cues
“Hello Brain” - I said to myself.
Without music, it was now me and my thoughts — a frightening concept for many of us.
What I noticed was interesting.
I took breaths in cadence
I relaxed tension in my jaw and shoulders
I took shorter strides with a faster foot turnaround, minimizing impact
By tuning into my run, I found an easier way to run hard.
Mindfulness: Intuition’s Tuition
Little breakthroughs in my run were always present, waiting to be discovered.
Mindfulness is the price we pay for personal insight. It’s “Intuition’s Tuition”. We all can access it.
Are you tuning in?

The art of the flex
Consider this: 92% of people struggle with some form of perfectionism. I struggle with it. And the hard reality is perfection and travel don’t mix.
I’ve been traveling for work for many years. And for many years I’ve lived two lives.
My home life — Where I stay fairly disciplined and consistent with my health, wellness, and routines
My travel life — Where I “let the wheels” fall off.
Sound familiar? I didn’t want to do this anymore — Enter Flexible Guidelines and New Habits
Break it down for me
Flexible Guidelines - Not letting yourself get tripped up in perfectionism.
Jon’s Example: Waking Up Early — waking up early used to be all or nothing for me. I would either wake up at 4:30am, or sleep in until right before I need to start work. Well 4:30am doesn’t work when you travel and you’re inevitably out late.
I shifted my mindset away from a certain wake-time to a minimum hours of sleep. Now I am for 6 hours minimum. If I’m out late I’ll get up a little later, and still go through the essential motions of my morning routine.
New Habits - Finding new ways to take your routines on the road.
Jon’s Example: Writing — I start my mornings reading, then writing.
At home, I have it down to a science - wake up, shuffle to the coffee pot, cleanup the kitchen, then start reading and writing on the couch.
I couldn’t stick to that on the road. Hotel room coffee stinks, and being in the same room as my bed was too tempting. So I created a new “travel writing routine”. I now grab my laptop, kindle, and notepad and immediately head down to the hotel lobby each morning.
None of this is “perfect” — but a step in right direction.

Stacking up NEW good habits , even if they are small changes, will eventually fade out the bad ones, we want to change. :):) However, we all need that WHY in order to change anything..... In addition, I think listening while running is a great way to "hear" even if hearing is not a strong sense:):)
